Resource State

Resource State

Moscow, REGNUM, 2007, pp108

In this book, which represents a series of articles over the past ten years, the author reflects upon existing concepts of the linear nature of development of Russian nationhood, and emergence and development of capitalism in Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union. He introduces the term »resource state», which, according to him, is characterized by an alternation of periods of decline, economic degradation and devastation (perestroika, the Thaw, revolutions, civil wars – through to breakup) and periods of stronger nationhood, accompanied by restoration of national economy – the phenomenon that is wrongly interpreted as economic growth. In this context, the author raises the question of applicability of concepts of law, democracy, civil society, and economy in analysis of resource state structure.
