Old Wells (Selected Works, Vol. 2)

Moscow, Europe Publishing House, 2007, pp 488

Russian essayism of the second part of the 20th century kept faith to traditions of pre-revolutionary essayism. Revival of these traditions became possible thanks to works by Valentin Ovechkin, Vladimir Tendryakov, Gavriil Troepolsky and others. Boris Chernykh, though he is younger than his predecessors in the essay genre, followed the best samples of the national school of journalism. The main thing is that he preserves a hero in all his works («Old Wells» and all his essays) – and he loves this hero. Chernykh prefers to write about a man rather than problems, and through his characters he inspires us with belief in Russia, in its present and future, in the Russian world.
