Books from a series "Overturns"

Collection of articles compiled by M.M.Meyer

Less than tree months elapsed since the bloody events in the Uzbek city of Andijan. The less we understand of what happened there, the easier we may be able to carelessly disregard it. Yet something is brewing down there, to the south of Kazakhstan, but what is it? The book presents a range of accounts and opinions from witnesses and opposition leaders, as well as tough analysis from a Russian political scientist who is familiar with the real issues on the southern frontiers and – last but not least – reflections of Shirin Akiner, a British professor with a Turkish name, who for some unknown reason was granted unique opportunities for movement and communication in Andijan. The appendices contain information on opposition movements in Uzbekistan and their leaders.

In this book, Elena Afanasieva – an expert political scientist, head of the «Center for Promotion of Stability» – is taking stock of the generic model of modern «revolution». The author gives her own explanation of what was taking place in Ukraine in the autumn of 2004, regarding those events as a Western or US political technology project pursuing certain economic interests.
